Annette Geiss appointed as CFO for MVV Energie AG

MVV Energie AG has appointed Annette Geiss as Chief Financial Officer, effective 1 January 2027. The company employs 6,800+ staff and had sales of €6.1bn (US$6.9bn) in FY2025.
The decision, taken at a Supervisory Board meeting, expands the energy company's Executive Board by creating a dedicated finance division to support upcoming capital demands.
Annettte brings extensive financial expertise to the Mannheim-based group. In her new role, she will take charge of accounting and tax, controlling, treasury, IT, facility management and materials management.
A business administration graduate, her previous leadership experience includes serving as CFO at energy supplier STEAG GmbH.
She was previously Vice President at Deutsche Bank, and after almost a decade at the bank, moved over to HSBC Trinhaus as Assistant Director.
Annette then spent the majority of her career at energy giant E.ON, working her way through the finance positions over the course of 15 years before leaving her post as Integration Lead CEO/CFO for E.ON’s HSSE Functions.

Leadership team from 2027
Her arrival will alter the executive management structure at MVV Energie AG. From 1 January 2027, the four-person Executive Board will comprise:
- Dr Gabriel Clemens, CEO and Labour Director
- Annette Geiss, CFO
- Dr Hansjorg Roll, CTO
- Dr Johannes Werhahn, CMO.

Annette joins MVV from Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA), where she currently serves as Chief Financial Officer and will remain in position until the end of 2026.
Funding the energy transition
The creation of the dedicated finance position comes as MVV prepares for a period of heavy capital expenditure driven by wider structural changes in the energy sector.
Supervisory Board Chair, Mannheim’s Lord High Mayor Christian Specht, comments: “MVV faces years of capital-intensive activity, with a high volume of investment needed to transform the energy system.

MVV Energie AG partners:
MaxSolar: MVV Trading GmbH (the energy trading arm of MVV) entered into a long-term fixed-price marketing contract with MaxSolar. The agreement involves marketing power from a 52 MW solar photovoltaic plant combined with optimising a 30MW / 60MWh battery storage system.
Mirova: Through its wholly-owned renewable project developer JUWI, MVV Energie signed agreements to sell multi-megawatt solar portfolios in Greece to sustainable investment manager Mirova. JUWI retained long-term contracts as the engineering, procurement, and construction and operations & maintenance manager for these installations.
Foresight Group: MVV subsidiary JUWI partnered with asset manager Foresight Group (in a joint venture with Mirova) for the acquisition and construction of a massive 267 MW solar portfolio in Central Greece. JUWI sold the project rights to the consortium while executing the construction and ongoing technical operations.
Igneo Infrastructure Partners: Igneo Infrastructure Partners acquired a 45.1% minority stake in MVV Energie AG. Acting as a long-term infrastructure investment partner alongside majority shareholder City of Mannheim (50.1%), Igneo supports MVV’s strategy to achieve climate-neutral operations.
Deutsche Bahn: MVV Trading signed a long-term Power Purchase Agreement with national railway operator Deutsche Bahn to supply green solar electricity generated directly from solar assets to help power railway transport networks. It will supply Deutsche Bahn for four years, until 2027.
