Costa Coffee appoints Matthew Sisk as CFO alongside a new Chief People Officer, as the business invests in growth, hiring and UK expansion plans

Costa Coffee has appointed Matthew Sisk as its new Chief Financial Officer, effective 1 September, as the company continues to strengthen its leadership team during a period of expansion.

Matthew joins from Coca-Cola, where he spent more than 21 years in senior financial leadership roles.

Most recently, he served as CFO and Representative Director for the company’s Japan and Korea operating unit, overseeing finance strategy, governance and operating performance, while partnering with business leaders to drive long-term value creation.

Alongside the CFO appointment, Costa has named Jez Langhorn as its new Chief People Officer, succeeding Jonathan Crookall following his retirement.

Philippe Schaillee, CEO of Costa, described Jez and Matthew as “brilliant,” following their appointments, noting that timing was excellent, as it was “a great moment to join Costa and be part of the next inflection in our growth journey”.

Strengthening people leadership

Jez brings extensive experience across global consumer-facing brands, including Starbucks and McDonald’s, and joins Costa as it expands its drive-thru footprint and high street presence.

Prior to joining the team at Costa, Jez Langhorn built an extensive background in HR leadership, which includes spending over 17 years at McDonald’s, where he originally started as Head of Talent and Education.

He subsequently filled the role of Chief Human Resources Officer at Global Partners, and later spent nearly two years operating as Starbucks’ Senior Vice President of HR in North America.

During his time at McDonald’s, he implemented digital initiatives such as a new recruitment ATS system, championed turnaround efforts in the US and launched an employer reputation campaign in collaboration with HR, communications and marketing teams.

“After 11 wonderful years in the US, this role brings me home to the UK and to a brand built on something I’ve believed in throughout my career: great customer experiences start with great team experiences,” he says.

Growth and hiring plans

Langhorn’s appointment comes as Costa grows its retail headcount, with plans to open 40 drive-thru locations in 2026. The company has also committed £3.5m (US$4.67m) to open 10 new stores in 2026, creating more than 70 jobs across the UK.

“We’re proud to be investing not only in new locations, but also in enhancing existing stores and creating valuable jobs and careers in communities across the country,” says Laura Crow, Regional Operations Director for Scotland and North England at Costa Coffee.

â€œWe see strong growth opportunities in Scotland and remain focused on delivering great coffee experiences with heart in locations that are convenient and accessible for our customers.”

Costa has also been strengthening its broader HR leadership team.

The company recently promoted Olivia Sarson, formerly Global Talent Acquisition Manager, to Global Head of Talent Acquisition.
