Oracle AI Deals Surge But US$24bn Cash Gap Hangs Over Share
Oracle faces a stalemate between a record US$664bn backlog—driven by US$30bn in new AI deals—and a US$24bn annual spending shortfall.
Company shares are down 55% from their peak in October 2025 as Wall Street reacts to fiscal 2026 capital expenditures (US$55.7bn) outstripping operating cash flow (US$32bn).
To tackle this gap, Oracle raised US$20bn in equity, issued BBB- debt and collected US$11.4bn in customer prepayments.
In return, cloud infrastructure revenue grew 121% last quarter, supported by high GPU utilisation and a US$300bn contract with OpenAI.
Despite this, risks for the company remain. Delivery for Oracle's 1.3GW Wisconsin data centre faces regulatory grid delays, and force majeure was declared on its Stargate campus in New Mexico over a delayed gas pipeline.
Investors, however, remain optimistic.

Bank of America US$1.2bn Fine to Impact Quarterly Earnings
US regulators handed Bank of America a US$1.2bn fine—the US Treasury's third-largest ever—for failing to report more than US$5bn in suspicious transactions, including links to money laundering and violations of sanctions involving Russia and Iran.
The fine includes a US$750m Office of the Comptroller of the Currency civil penalty and a US$11.6m fine from the Office of Foreign Assets Control for compliance failures in transaction monitoring.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent says that such failures expose the US financial system to finance and national security risks.
In addition to paying the fine, Bank of America must hire an independent monitor to audit previous transactions.
Following the announcement, Bank of America shares fell 2.7% in after-hours trading.
Spendesk Report: 67% of Finance Teams Use AI Tools
According to Spendesk’s “Top CFO Tools Report 2026,” which surveyed more than 200 finance executives, it was found that 67% of finance teams now use AI tools – up from 56% in 2025 and 31% in 2024.
Claude leads adoption at 41%, ahead of Copilot, ChatGPT and Gemini. Primary use cases for the technology include financial modelling, forecasting and workflow automation.
Rather than adding standalone software, finance teams are adopting more coherent tech stacks, with more than 90% now using six or less tools.
AI is becoming increasingly integrated into existing systems and is commonly used to analyse data across spreadsheets, financial platforms and company documents.
Pauline Babel, CFO at Spendesk, says AI embedded within connected ecosystems is accelerating decision-making by replacing manual data search with a question-answer method.
The report highlights a shift towards fully connected financial tool stacks, allowing AI to drive future strategy rather than just reporting on data.
