MoneySuperMarket has introduced an all-in-one business bank account designed to help UK sole traders and SMEs navigate Making Tax Digital requirements

MONY Group comparison brand MoneySuperMarket has launched MoneySuperMarket Business Banking, a new account and app targeted at UK small businesses, freelancers and limited companies.

The service combines regulated banking infrastructure, payment services and integrated tax and accounting technology within a single mobile platform.

To deliver the offering, MoneySuperMarket collaborated with financial technology company Countingup.

Through Countingup's partnership with Griffin, the account operates using Griffin's regulated banking infrastructure, payment rails and compliance framework. Countingup manages the app experience and operational servicing, while fintech lender iwoca provides built-in access to SME loans for limited companies.

Lis Barton, Chief Customer Officer at MONY Group, which includes MoneySuperMarket, notes: “Our new MoneySuperMarket Business Bank account is designed to take the hassle out of managing company finances, with built-in tools like real-time transaction tracking and automated expenses categorisation to help with Making Tax Digital requirements.

“Our aim is to save business owners time dealing with their day-to-day finances so they can focus on growing their businesses.”

Addressing digital tax mandates

The launch coincides with regulatory shifts in UK tax administration. In April 2026, HM Revenue and Customs expanded Making Tax Digital (MTD) obligations for small businesses and self-employed individuals with annual incomes above £50,000 (US$67,430).

These digital reporting thresholds will tighten further to £30,000 (US$40,450) in April 2027 and £20,000 (US$26,970) in April 2028, bringing additional sole traders and SMEs into scope over the coming years.

MoneySuperMarket Business Banking includes features intended to streamline MTD compliance. The app offers real-time transaction tracking, automated expense categorisation and automated VAT submissions.

Account holders can also grant external accountants access via a dedicated hub, generate and issue invoices directly, and access business comparison tools on the MoneySuperMarket website.

Managing financial admin pressure

Research conducted by MoneySuperMarket prior to the launch indicates operational bottlenecks across the UK small business sector.

According to the survey, 47% of business owners cite remaining organised for HMRC as their primary financial challenge, while 61% report difficulties maintaining financial records. Nearly two in five UK small businesses – 37% – rely on paper records.

Tax compliance errors remain prevalent among SMEs. The data shows 11% of small business owners have missed tax deadlines, and 16% have failed to reserve adequate funds to cover tax bills.

The new account allows users to calculate and reserve money for tax returns continuously throughout the year.

Lis adds that the software aims to simplify administrative workflows for small firms adapt to evolving HMRC demands.

Pricing for the account operates on a tiered monthly structure based on deposit volumes – charging £5 (US$6.70) for balances up to £750 (US$1,011).

Another example includes a larger range, such as £20 (US$26.90) for balances exceeding £7,500 (US$10,113) – with no initial fees for the first three months.
