Justin Benson, CEO of Spreedly, appoints Darren Bounds as CFO to accelerate agentic AI commerce as the platform processes US$60bn in annual GMV

Spreedly has announced the appointment of Darren Bounds as its new Chief Financial Officer.

Darren holds more than 15 years of financial leadership and investment banking experience, making him an ideal candidate for the role as Spreedly continues to accelerate its global growth strategy, expand its work with major enterprises and position itself as a leader in agentic commerce.

Spreedly, a payments vault and orchestration platform designed for agentic commerce, enables organisations to own their payment tokens, connect to payment and fraud providers and route transactions for AI-driven commerce.

The company is trusted by global brands including Hopper, Lemonade, Getty, Warner, The New York Times and Priceline. Across its global customer base, Spreedly processes more than US$60bn in annual gross merchandise value on behalf of more than 400 customers in more than 100 countries.

An understanding of finance and operational infrastructure

Darren most recently served as CFO at Team Cymru, a global cyber threat intelligence company.

This role saw him more than double the company’s revenue while maintaining strong profitability.

He also played a key role in securing a growth investment from Audax Private Equity and built the financial and operational infrastructure to support the company’s continued growth.

Prior to his time at Team Cymru, Darren spent 10 years working in investment banking at Credit Suisse, Houlihan Lokey and Baird, advising executives, boards and investors on more than US$15bn in transactions.

Discussing Darren’s appointment, Justin Benson, CEO of Spreedly, says: “Darren knows what it takes to scale a technology business with discipline and ambition.

"We're building the payments infrastructure that leading enterprises need to grow globally and adapt as AI reshapes commerce.”

He adds that Darren brings “the financial and operational experience” needed to help Spreedly “turn that opportunity into sustained, profitable growth”.

AI commerce and the global marketplace

In recent months, Spreedly has focused on the role AI agents are set to play in global commerce.

Companies including Meta and Mastercard have recently launched AI agents or pilots that can make payments autonomously on a user’s behalf, which have in turn sparked concerns around data connectivity and security.

In a blog post earlier this month, the company said it has already “built the foundations which reach most of the payment flows where an AI agent shows up in the transaction today.”

In a blog post earlier this year, Justin said: “AI commerce is already happening and opening new possibilities for how businesses grow.

“Our commitment is to make sure merchants can engage in this shift confidently, without giving up control of their payment infrastructure.”
