Temenos is weaving AI into core banking, digital services and financial crime controls as it helps banks modernise, automate and grow faster

Temenos has spent more than 30 years developing banking software, yet its current focus is increasingly on intelligence rather than infrastructure.

The Swiss company is presenting itself as a key partner for banks that want to modernise more quickly, run more efficiently and use AI to enhance customer journeys and internal processes.

That shift comes as debate over AI in financial services has moved well beyond theory.

Banks are now under pressure to personalise services, automate compliance, cut operational friction and speed up product delivery — and Temenos is aiming to support all four within its banking stack.

From core to smart banking

Temenos – one of CNBC’s World’s Top Fintech Companies – says it is a global leader in banking technology and that more than 950 banks worldwide trust its platform.

That reach gives it a solid foundation for introducing AI capabilities into core banking, digital banking and financial crime mitigation.

Its message is that AI should be embedded, explainable and practical in everyday banking operations, not layered on as an experiment.

That philosophy is reflected in its product strategy, which includes AI agents, copilots and conversational tools across the portfolio.

“For three consecutive years, Temenos has been recognised for its consistent, industry-leading technology and innovation as well as trusted partnership with global financial institutions,” Takis Spiliopoulos, CEO of Temenos, says of being named one of CNBC’s World’s Top Fintech Companies.

“With our breadth of leadership across banking technology sectors and regions, this prestigious recognition is a clear indication of our capabilities and commitment to helping financial institutions modernise faster, operate more efficiently and unlock new growth.”

Temenos and its AI journey

Temenos has recently increased its investment in embedded and agentic AI.

At the Temenos Community Forum 2026, it unveiled new AI-powered features across Core, Digital Banking and Financial Crime Mitigation. These included Temenos AI Agents, Copilots and Conversational Studio, as well as an FCM AI Agent for Instant Payments.

The rollout combines Microsoft Azure AI and NVIDIA microservices to support secure, explainable financial workflows.

As the company put it, the update was designed so that “new Temenos AI agents, copilots and conversational studio embed intelligence into the trusted core of banking”.

Barb Morgan, Chief Product and Technology Officer at Temenos, says: “Banks do not need AI added on top of critical systems. They need intelligence built into the products and workflows they already trust.

“Rather than introducing a separate AI layer, we are embedding AI responsibly so banks can automate operations, scale services and innovate safely without compromising reliability or regulatory obligations.”

Temenos has also expanded its AI message into wealth management.

In June, it announced a definitive agreement to acquire additiv, saying the deal would strengthen its wealth proposition and speed up AI-driven orchestration.

“This acquisition strengthens our Wealth proposition at a time when we see strong, growing demand for our products across tiers and geographies in the Wealth segment, with financial institutions increasingly focused on launching scalable hybrid wealth models,” Takis said at the time.

“Together, additiv’s AI-powered orchestration capabilities and Temenos’ existing front-end solutions create strong differentiation at the banking experience layer.”

What it means

Temenos’ challenge is not showing that AI matters to banking, but proving its tools can create measurable value in regulated and complex environments without undermining trust, governance or integration discipline.

Its approach shows that AI works best when it is explainable, embedded and useful in operations.

If Temenos continues converting product launches into tangible results for banks, it is likely to remain one of the most influential names in the next phase of AI-enabled financial software.
