The Boston Beer Company under CEO Jim Koch is on a new hunt for its CFO as Diego Reynoso leaves and CAO Matt Murphy steps up in the interim

Boston Beer faces a new challenge as it searches for a new finance chief. Outgoing CFO Diego Reynoso has announced his departure from the company after three years in order to accept a new opportunity.

The CFO’s last day will be 14 September, 2026, and has not yet announced where his next post will take place.

In order to plug the leadership gap, Chief Accounting Officer Matt Murphy will step into Diego’s shoes, acting as interim CFO.

"On behalf of our Board of Directors and everyone at Boston Beer, I’d like to say thank you to Diego for his significant contributions and disciplined financial leadership over the past three years,” notes Jim Koch, Chairman, Boston Beer Founder, Brewer and CEO

“He has played an important role in advancing our ongoing productivity initiatives and leaves the Company with a strong financial foundation. Diego goes on to the next stage of his career with all our best wishes.”

Extensive expertise in the C-Suite

Matt Murphy returns to the position of CFO after also being selected as interim CFO in 2023.

Before Diego joined the company, Boston Beer relied on the financial expertise of one of its own.

Matt has 20 years of experience in finance at Boston Beer, starting his career as a Corporate Controller in 2006.

He has over 30 years of experience in the world of finance in total, with roles ranging from Senior Manager in Audit at Arthur Andersen to CFO of e-travel, Opodo and interim CFO at Boston Beer in 2023.

Appointed as CAO in 2015, Matt’s role included many of the same skills as CFO possesses; financial planning and analysis, commercial finance and financial reporting.

The company has announced that its hiring process will not only look at internal candidates but also external candidates for the next CFO.

A strong financial year

The announcement for a new CFO comes shortly after the company announced its H2 financial results.

Reporting that its net revenue decreased 3.3% to US$568.3m, Diego noted at the time: “We delivered meaningful gross margin expansion and are maintaining our earnings outlook while navigating a dynamic consumer demand environment and input cost headwinds.
