Why Finance Giant Allianz Has Hired Four Health Leaders

Global financial services and insurance provider Allianz Partners is betting on senior talent to unlock growth in one of its most strategic divisions.
The business operates as a global provider in B2B2C solutions across international health and life, travel insurance, mobility and assistance sectors. It has operations in more than 70 countries and manages more than 72.9 million cases annually.
To maintain its leading position and build on its global presence, the firm has announced four senior strategic appointments in its health division, to accelerate commercial expansion and capture market share across key global markets.

Commercial leadership for sustained growth
Giovanni di Meo has been appointed Head of Commercial, Health & Benefits at Allianz Partners.
He will oversee Employee Benefits, Corporate IPMI and Governmental sales segments globally in this position.
Giovanni holds responsibility for developing and executing global sales strategy and advancing trading performance across all markets, while establishing distribution relationships with partners.
He brings 15 years of experience in Life and Health insurance across Europe and Asia, with expertise in business development and broker management.
Giovanni joined Allianz Partners in 2020 and held the position of Head of Sales Performance and Steering, Health & Benefits from 2023 to 2025.
European sales leadership
Liam Hughes has been appointed Head of Sales Europe, Health & Benefits at Allianz Partners.
He will lead the European sales team to drive growth, retention and market expansion in Europe across all business segments.
Liam has built and managed high-performing global teams previously, with a focus on recruiting and developing talent.
He arrives at Allianz Partners from Cigna International, where he served as Chief Commercial Officer, bringing more than 30 years of experience in international B2B relationships.
His appointment strengthens Allianz Partners' commercial capabilities across the European market.
Expanding across Middle East and Africa
Carl Downham has taken on the role of Head of Sales Middle East & Africa (MEA), Health & Benefits at Allianz Partners.
He will oversee the development and execution of sales strategies in this role, focusing on key partnerships and expanding market presence across the MEA region.
Carl has held multiple positions at Allianz Partners previously, including leading new business development with airlines across the MEA region in the Assistance line of business.
He subsequently moved to the Health division, where he led customer relationship management initiatives.
Carl announced the move on LinkedIn, saying: "My 15-year journey with Allianz, spanning London, Bahrain and the UAE, has prepared me for this challenge.
"A sincere thank you to my past and present colleagues, mentors and the fantastic network of broker partners and clients who support my success.
"In my new role, I will be concentrating on strategic expansion across the Middle East and Africa, specifically targeting: Individual, SME, Large Corporate, Governmental and new Partnership opportunities.
"The goal is simple: to boost our regional success."
Sales and financial planning and performance
Elke De Cauwer has been appointed Head of Sales Steering, Transformation and Performance at Allianz Partners Health.
She brings more than 25 years of experience in global healthcare and insurance services, including 13 years with Allianz Partners.
Her background includes roles focused on client solutions, digital transformation and operational leadership.
In her new position, Elke will lead a global team to advance strategic planning and performance management across the Health line of business.
She will oversee sales support, implement processes and tools, manage reporting frameworks and lead transformation programmes.
